Sylvester Stallone could get over $5MIL at auction for rare watch (2024)

Sylvester Stallone could earn over $5 million at auction for an extremely rare Swiss watch - which he says has 'never been touched' by 'human hands.'

The 77-year-old - who is worth an estimated $400million - has put 11 of his luxury timepieces up for auction at Sotheby's, including one that he wore in The Expendables 2 in 2011.

All of the watches are thought to be worth princely sums, as each one is projected to sell for least tens of thousands of dollars.

But the item thought to be the most valuable is thePatek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, a double-face watch made with white gold first unveiled in 2014.

Purchased by Sylvester in 2021, the watch is estimated to be worth between $2.5 million and $5 million, according to the auction houselisting.

'This is the most complicated wristwatch ever made on the planet,' Sylvester told Sotheby's. 'It doesn't get any better than this.'

He recalled that 'when the time came for me to say: "What is the finest watch in the world? I'd like to own that." They said: "This is it."'

The Rocky star revealed that the bauble was 'not easy to come by. I had to appeal to certain powers that be, write many letters to the board, and eventually it was determined that I was gonna be the owner of one of these magnificent pieces of art.'

He presented the item in tightly sealed plastic casing, revealing that it was 'untouched by human hands' and explaining that he 'bought this as a collector.'

Sylvester shared: 'I didn't want to, you know, wear it around and bang it up, this and that. I thought, this is way you would treat a painting, a Monet, a work of art. You just don't thrash it about. That's for something else.'

He added fondly: 'This one here is that you just look at it and it's a real sense of accomplishment owning this thing. "Okay, I arrived, I guess I did something right in my life and this is my reward to myself."'

With five chiming modes, 20 complications, two independent dials and six patented innovations, the watch is a feverishly coveted prize among aficionados.

From development through assembly, each Grandmaster Chime takes about 100,000 hours to create, according to the watchmakers.

Sylvester's Patek Philippe piece is projected to be by far the most expensive of the 11 watches he has just put up for auction.

In second place is a pink gold Audemars PiguetRoyal Oak Tourbillon '50th Anniversary' watch, estimated at between $100,000 and $200,000.

Sly is also selling his bronze and titanium Luminor Submersible 1950 watch, which he could be seen wearing in his 2011 movie The Expendables 2.

That piece, which is made of bronze and titanium and nicknamed 'Bronzo', is estimated by Sotheby's to be worth between $30,000 and $60,000.

Dutch YouTuberNico Leonard van der Horst - who boasts more than a million subscribers on his channel devoted to luxury watches - recently gushed that Sylvester's Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime is the 'Holy Grail' of timepieces.

He theorized that the Rambo star would be able to earn 'significantly more' than the $5 million estimated by Sotheby's on their website.

'And of course the auction house sets an attractive estimation to attract a lot of people to then get a lot of people into the bidding war,' he pointed out to TMZ. 'If you know the game, you know the game.'

He added that the Sotheby's sale 'will define the accurate and exact value' of the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime in future.

'And keep in mind that people that own this watch and actually have that watch are usually people who never need to sell a watch or never – they’re never in a situation where they want to get rid of that watch, so this is going to be a very, very important auction,' said Nico, who himself owns a luxury watch boutique in Belfast.
