Comedian Jim Jefferies reveals he has been punched TWICE by hecklers (2024)

Jim Jefferies has revealed he has been punched twice by rude hecklers on stage and said he is 'not the best' at dealing with them.

The Australian comedian, 47, appeared on Channel 7's Sunrise to discuss his upcoming Australian tour and also touched upon his experience with hecklers.

He was asked by hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington what his best 'put down' for hecklers is, to which he responded that he isn't 'the best' at dealing with them.

Jim admitted he has been punched twice by hecklers, oneof which was caught on camera in 2007 at Manchester's The Comedy Store in now-infamous footage.

'If you GoogleJim Jeffries punched, you will see what people do with me when they heckle,' he shared.

'I've actually been punched on stage twice, but it's only been caught on film once. I'm not the best.'

Jim has previously addressed the 2007 punch video and said he hadn't spoken to the audience member, who stormed on stage and hit him after being upset by a joke.

The 1% Club host told how his tour began selling out after the video went viral as he laughed off the shock situation.

Elsewhere on Sunrise, Jim also showed his support for fellow comedian Arj Barker, who came under fire last month for ejecting a breastfeeding mother from his gig.

Arj, 49, sparked controversy when he asked mother-of-three Trish Farandaand her baby Clarato leave his Melbourne Comedy Festival show for being disruptive.

It provoked a huge online backlash, but American funnyman Arj insisted a baby should never have been allowed at his over-15s comedy gig in the first place.

Now, Jim has agreed with him and showed his support for Arj after the divisive social media debate on the issue, insisting children shouldn't be allowed at comedy gigs.

He said: 'No children in my shows, I swear a lot! Of course you're not meant to have babies!

'I couldn't believe this was even an argument that poor Arj Barker got in trouble because someone was breastfeeding in the show.'

'It's an adult show you are going to. It's not like if you went to a strip club, "I was trying to breastfeed me baby in the strip club and everyone got upset at me", no, of course you aren't meant to have kids there,' he went on.

'It's nothing to do with breastfeeding, mothers, not battle of the sexes thing, it's just children shouldn't be at live comedy shows.'

Audience member Ms Farandaclaimed she was humiliated and reduced to tears when she and her seven-month-old daughter Clara were booted from the theatre.

She claimed Clara 'had a bit of a whinge' before she gave her a feed, with Arj asking her to leave about 15 minutes into the gig because they were 'disrupting his show'.

However, Arj said baby Clara should not have been at his over-15s show in the first place, but alsoapologised to Ms Faranda for the embarrassment caused.

'I hope you're doing okay. I'm sorry that that was a difficult situation, and I would like to make peace,' he told Sunrise last month.

'I would like to meet up with her and have a serious discussion about selling the movie rights and go 50-50.

'Also, to the beautiful baby who I have nothing against, I want to offer that little child a ticket to my show post-dated 2039.'

'I'm not gonna hide because I want people to know the truth of what happened, at least from my perspective,' he went on.'Both myself and the woman were put in a position we shouldn't have been in.'

Arj insisted he has no issue with public breastfeeding which he described as perfectly natural, and said he did not know that's what she was doing at the time.

'I couldn't see her well enough to know if she was breastfeeding or not - that's something I only heard about two days after the incident,' he continued.

'I want to make that really clear because it's been mentioned so much I had, and if she was, I wouldn't care.'

He also acknowledged that the baby was not screaming but that her 'cute' noises were distracting the audience.

'It's about the crowd enjoying an immersive experience of watching a comedy show with timing and pauses and getting drawn into the show,' he explained.

'As a performer, I have a right to ask a disruptive audience member to leave the show.

'Unfortunately, it was a cute little baby at this time and nothing to do with the mum or the gender of the parent. If it was a father, I would have said the exact same thing.

'From where I'm standing on stage, I'm merely trying to create a nice environment to perform my show.'
