Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitcher Streaming Options: June 17-23 (2024)

Streaming starting pitchers is a common strategy that often leads to success in fantasy baseball. For those unfamiliar with the concept, the idea is simply to pick up a “lesser” pitcher for an inviting matchup or two that is soon to come.

The strategy certainly comes with risk, as there is usually a good reason, or several, that a particular hurler is rostered at a lower rate in most leagues. Still, the gamble can pay off nicely if a fantasy manager gets it right and their waiver add delivers.

The goal of this weekly article is to help fantasy managers pinpoint some two-start streamers with favorable matchups for the following week of the 2024 MLB season. These suggestions should be able to help out in a variety of season-long formats, but they can be especially useful to gain an edge in weekly head-to-head leagues.

Next Week’s Best Two-Start SP Streamers

Jake Irvin (WSH) – vs. ARI, at COL – 51%

Irvin really should be viewed as a waiver-wire add for the long term at this point, as he is one of the league’s hottest pitchers amid a breakout season. The towering righty has brought his season ERA all the way down to an excellent 3.00 after five consecutive starts of at least six innings and two runs or fewer allowed.

Over that five-start run, Irvin has posted a 1.48 ERA (3.10 xFIP), 0.92 WHIP, and 31-to-6 K/BB across 30.1 innings. The opposition has hit just .200 against him while making contact at only a 77.7% clip. He has given up more than three runs in just three of 11 outings this season.

A start at Colorado’s Coors Field always carries some concern for pitchers, but Irvin should be able to keep his groove going next week.

Aaron Civale (TB) – at MIN, at PIT – 36%

Unlike Irvin, Civale has been shaky throughout the campaign, laboring to a 5.20 ERA over 14 starts. His 3.83 xFIP is somewhat encouraging though, and he has been improving of late. The 29-year-old hurler held the Cubs to just one run on five hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.2 frames this past Wednesday.

Civale has now logged a minimum of five innings in six straight starts, surrendering no more than four earned runs in any of those.

Over his last four outings, he has turned in a nice 3.43 ERA and 22-to-4 K/BB across 21 innings. That’s pretty solid, particularly considering that Civale faced the dangerous Orioles’ offense (5.13 runs per game) in two of those games.

Tobias Myers (MIL) – at LAA, at SD – 4%

Myers has been quite impressive in his last two rounds for the beat-up Brewers’ rotation.

The rookie right-hander came up with his best MLB performance to date back on June 7, stifling the Tigers’ lineup over eight shutout frames in which he allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out five. He followed that up with six innings of one-run ball against the Blue Jays this past Wednesday.

Those were two fairly favorable matchups, but it seems Myers has been settling in at the big league level. He has delivered a 2.60 ERA (3.95 xFIP) over his last six outings, compiling a 25-to-9 K/BB and 1.08 WHIP across 27.2 innings. His 35.1% HardHit% and 20.8% LD%, which have resulted in a .212 AVG (.254 BABIP), are encouraging as well.

Myers is a risky option, but one that could pay off in deeper formats.
